UN Environment


PATA and UN Environment have agreed through a Memorandum of Understanding to further sustainable tourism, and to mainstream sustainable consumption and production patterns in the tourism sector.

The UN Environment  is the leading organization within the United Nations system in the field of environment and has as a major area of focus of its global mandate, the conservation, protection, enhancement and support of nature and natural resources, including biological diversity, worldwide. UN Environment has the mandate to mainstream sustainability into tourism by demonstrating the economic, environmental, and socio-cultural benefits of sustainable tourism, and established the Sustainable Tourism Programme of One Planet Network with the aim of improving knowledge and strengthening capacity and decision-making processes for more sustainable tourism.

UN Environment hosts the One Planet Network Secretariat –an open partnership, and countries including all relevant stakeholders and organisations are invited to join and actively engage to support the implementation of SDG 12 and to support and implement the shift to sustainable consumption and production patterns, contributing as an effective implementing mechanism of Goal 12 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
