While we always advocate for utilising public transportation and other eco-methods of ground travel at your destination, sometimes, it’s just not realistic. Fortunately, if renting a car is unavoidable, there are still ways to make it green. Here’s how:
- Check your destination for green car rental companies such as Green Motion Car Hire, a low-cost, low impact car rental company, currently in 30 countries.
- Find out the fuel efficiency of your possible choices, and go with the best fuel economy. Read Consumer Report’s “Best & Worst Fuel Economy: Fuel sippers and guzzlers in all vehicle categories.”
- Consider renting a hybrid or electric car. Some popular models include the Toyota Prius, Chevrolet Bolt, Hyundai Ioniq, Nissan Leaf, or the high-end Tesla.
- Ask your car rental company about their sustainability or social responsibility policy. For example, Europcar has a “Green Policy” posted on their website. Simply asking about it can show that you care, and encourage further awareness raising efforts.
Buckle up and enjoy the ride!
